The Imola racetrack in San Marino used to be a high speed circuit with a very long straight running down the entire length of the track up until 1994. It was in the same race weekend that year that this very straight cost two drivers their lives and asked some serious questions about the safety of the track. Two new chicanes were added to break up this straight and the safety requirements of the cars were improved dramatically. The modern day circuit is more of a medium speed track, that requires a lot of the brakes but also favours a well balanced car.
