Montreal in Canada isn’t a street circuit although it feels as if it should be. Built on a manmade island and situated right next to the Olympic rowing basin, the track had very little space when it was designed meaning that it was forced to fold back upon itself and have its barriers very close to the track. Putting it simply, the track is just two long straights punctuated with chicanes and with hairpins at the end. Because of this, it is a real car destroyer of a circuit, giving the brakes and the transmissions of the cars a real pounding. Add into this the limited run off areas and then you can understand why not many cars make it to the chequered flag in Canada.
