Overview[/u]
What an interesting racing series this is becoming. In the previous race 2Fast2Disney were almost unstoppable and could have easily claimed a 1-2 finish while VirginTR languished down the order and suffered terrible reliability. However one week later, the paddock moves to Hockenheim in Germany and it is indeed Andy Haining's outfit who are now ripping up the tarmac while Emma Hickmore's pink squad line up plum last. It's all in the balance, so to speak.
However it is Team Pingu's American star, Brandon Hawn, who was the standout performer by far today as he put in an amazing lap to take pole position. Just to put that into perspective, he is 8 places ahead of his team mate with a time nearly half a second faster. The same could also be said for Michael Bliss of Whizzbanger, lining up 2nd which is a mighty 11 places ahead of his team mate. This leaves the 2nd row to be filled by VirginTR and the 3rd row to be filled by Lisa F1. Victor Rautakaite, the stand-in for the banned Jere Opet, was impressive on his debut and outqualified his championship contending team mate (who line up 7th and 9th respectively). Sandwiched by the two F1N Racing cars is Rueben Gones and completing the top 10 is local boy, Man Karpstein.
Not so impressive today were the better chassis cars, as you would expect at such a powerhouse of a circuit like Hockenheim (see link to track guide at top of page), most noticably 2Fast2Disney. It's fair to say that the chassis orientated cars can only really expect a handful of points at best on Sunday...unless it rains, and then we're in for a real treat. Either way, there will be a few drivers counting their lucky stars over tonight and Saturday before the race and will be hoping to get the good results that will launch their team into the championship battle.
