If you are a team boss then you will understand that when you set up your team, you will have to decide what characteristics you want your car to have. To be technically correct, you have to decide what grade chassis and engine you want. This may mean nothing to you or it may instantly click. Either way, the following is an explanation to help you get it clear in your mind what it actually all means .
The Chassis
The chassis is responsible for the cornering grip a car has. The better the chassis, the faster the car can go in the corners. If you would like to be better at twisty circuits with a lot of corners and not many straights then you are advised to get a better chassis.
The Engine
On the other hand, the engine provides the grunt in your car. The better the engine, the faster the car will go in a straight line. If you feel that you'd like to do well at faster tracks with blasting straights and not many corners then having a strong engine is the way to go.
Balancing The Two
At the start of the season, your car is grade 0 meaning that it is completely unmodified. Race like this, and you dont stand a chance. Both the engine and chassis can be upgraded to grade 10. Race like this, and there'll be no stopping you...if only it were that easy eh? Although both the engine and chassis can be upgraded to 10, at the start of the season you're only allowed to buy 10 upgrades between them. Please note the word 'between'.
The possibilities
To be simple, basic and logical, it would make sense to buy 5 upgrades of each and be equal in both the engine and chassis department. However, not everyone is simple, basic and logical. You may feel the need to get 6 of one and 4 of the other. This will of course give you a slight disadvantage in one area but a boost in the other. Others may see this tactic and feel the need to go one better, getting themselves a 7-3 setup. This now means that one area is well developed while the other...is not. If you feel the urge to totally dominate one aspect, then a 10-0 is for you...but then again, so is bungee jumping.
So what should I do?
Well, its completely up to you. In the end, it all equals out as all the cars will have the same amount of upgrades as each other (just in different areas). It depends where you think the advantage lies. Fancy going well at twisty Monaco? Focus on your chassis. Want to rocket round the Indianapolis oval? Get a decent engine. Want to be solid but not spectacular? Go equals my friend.
Just remember, at the end of the day it is your team you are setting up so you do what you feel is best. You cant really do much more can you? ;D
