Patrick Walton has been handed a 1 race ban for his driving at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain this weekend. Not only did he significantly hold up the leaders of the race and cost them valuable time but he also ran wide into the back of Manuel Santo in what could have been an avoidable shunt. Santo was in 10th place at the time and would have scored points, but his left rear wheel was torn off in the accident and he was forced to retire from the race. Although the PharmaOne driver was not injured, it was seen as an unsporting move by Walton to remove him from potentially his first points of the season.
This means that for the race next weekend in Austria, Virgin TR team boss, Andy Haining, will have to hire a reserve driver to fill the gap left by this ban.
